Text messaging

SMS messaging terms

How our text messaging program works, what our texts do and do not contain, and how to stop them at any time.

Who sends these messages

Text messages come from Neuropsychological Associates, the neuropsychology practice at 475 East Main Street, Suite 201, Patchogue, NY 11772. Some are sent by our staff. Some are sent automatically by our messaging assistant. Either way, they come from us.

Our texts are sent from (631) 364-7995. That is not the same as our main office number, which is (631) 366-3369. It helps to save both numbers in your phone, so you can see that a message is really from us.

We will never ask you for a password, a card number, or a payment by text. If a text asks you for any of those, it is not from us.

How you opt in

We text you only if you say yes first. You can say yes out loud during a phone call with our office or our scheduling assistant, or you can ask us to text you when you fill in a request on this website.

That is the only way a number is added. We do not add numbers any other way. We never buy, rent, or share phone numbers.

Saying yes is your choice, and it is not a condition of care. You do not have to agree to text messages to be seen here, to book an evaluation, or to get your results. If you say no, nothing about your care changes, and we will simply call you or write to you instead.

What we send

Short, practical messages: a link to our consultation request form, a note confirming that we received your request, a nudge asking you to check your email or to call us, our office location and hours, and how to reschedule.

How many messages you get varies. It depends on where you are up to with us and on what you ask for, so there is no set number each week or month. Most people get about one to four messages about a request.

What we never send

We do not send clinical, diagnostic, or health information by text, and we cannot discuss your care over SMS. Text messaging is not a secure or HIPAA-compliant channel, so our messages contain no patient-specific health information — at most a note asking you to call us, or a secure link.

Our texts also leave out appointment detail. A text from us will not say the date or time of your visit, why you are coming, what testing is planned, or anything a doctor has told us. It will only ask you to check your email, to call the office, or to open a secure link. The detail stays behind that link, or in your email, or in a conversation with a person.

We do this because a text message can be read by anyone who picks up your phone, and because it travels across the phone network unencrypted. Please do not send us health details by text either. If you do, we will ask you to call us instead.

For anything about your care, please call (631) 366-3369.

Cost, and messages that do not arrive

We do not charge you anything for these texts. Your own mobile phone company may. Message and data rates may apply. What you pay depends on your own plan, so if you are not sure, ask your mobile phone company.

We also cannot promise that every message arrives, or arrives on time. Phone networks sometimes delay messages or drop them altogether. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. So please do not rely on a text alone for anything that matters — if you are expecting to hear from us and have not, call the office.

Stopping messages, and starting again

Reply STOP to any message to stop immediately. Reply START to resume. Reply HELP, or call (631) 366-3369, for help.

STOP works at any time, from any of our messages, and you do not have to give a reason. You will get one last text confirming that we have stopped, and then nothing further.

Stopping texts does not stop your care. We will still call you and write to you as usual.

If you change your mind later, you can start again. Reply START from the same phone, or just tell the office and we will turn them back on for you.

Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
